Schreiner
Cruises Past Sul Ross State Again
Photo: Sophomore Danny Okland went 2-0 vs. SRS
For the second time in a week, Schreiner Men's Tennis had an
easy time with Sul Ross State. The difference was that
this 8-1 win counted in the ASC rankings. Last week,
SU won convincingly, 7-2, but it was played as a
non-conference match. On Friday, the Mountaineers
officially christened the brand new Cree Tennis Center with
an even easier win over the Lobos (0-1 in ASC).
Schreiner (1-0 in ASC) started the match with three wins in
doubles action. The closest match was at #2 doubles
where sophomore Danny Okland and freshman Jesse McKinney
earned a 9-7 win. Both the #1 (freshman Trey Hernandez
& sophomore Tory Manchester) and #3 (sophomores Jacob
Chesnut and Stephen Franklin) won by 8-2 counts to put SU up
3-0.
In singles play, Hernandez won 6-2, 6-3 at #1, Okland
cruised 6-1, 6-0 at #2, Chesnut was almost as dominant at
#3, Manchester won at #4 (6-1, 6-4) and Franklin won 7-5,
6-3 at #5. Only McKinney at #6 failed to get a point
in singles.
SU takes to the court tomorrow vs. Trinity in San Antonio in
non-conference action. |
