Welcome back Schreiner Students,
Faculty and Staff!
We
hope you all had an outstanding
holiday season and enjoyed your time
away from campus.
2007 is off and running in the land
of the Mountaineers, but we first
want to recognize our academic stars
from the Fall 2006 semester. A
total of 64 student-athletes earned
academic honors for their classroom
performances last semester. The list
of achievers is available at the
following site:
http://athletics.schreiner.edu/AcademicAward/SUFall06.htm
Congratulations to our
Mountaineer achievers!
Now, on to the games... Both
Schreiner Basketball teams host
games in Edington Center TONIGHT and
Saturday afternoon. |

A
quick look back at Mountaineer action ... |
|
|
|
Here's
a look at the recent past for both
teams and the next week's schedule
follows:
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - went 2-1
this past week. Beat TLU (78-60) on
Monday, beat LeTourneau (74-52) on
Saturday and lost to Ozarks, 68-81
last Thursday. The Mountaineers have
won two straight over less
successful ASC teams and have
improved their record to 4-5 in the
ASC. SU started slowly in the first
half vs. TLU and had only a
four-point lead at halftime but took
control in the second half over the
winless Lady Bulldogs. Against
LeToureau, the Mountaineers used two
big runs - one in each half - to
pull away and cruise to victory.
Ozarks did the same thing - big runs
in each half - to doom SU in its
game. Over the three games, Courtney
Davis has led SU in scoring
averaging 13.7 pts/game while Monica
Enriquez has averaged 13.3 pts, 6
rebounds and 5 assists. Kerrie
Carter has led the SU rebounders
with 8 per night while Liberty
Liesmann has 7 rebounds per game.
MEN'S BASKETBALL - went 1-2
this past week. Lost to TLU (67-70),
lost to LeTourneau (75-89) and beat
Ozarks (83-78). Schreiner lost a
tough contest to TLU despite a
furious late game rally and fell to
3-6 in the ASC with the loss. The
two teams were tied at halftime and
SU took a 10-point lead in the
second half but TLU's 77% shooting
in the second half was too much to
overcome. Against LeTourneau, it was
again hot shooting from the visiting
team that beat the Mountaineers as
LU shot 67% from behind the
three-point arc to win. In the win
over Ozarks, Richard Moore had a
breakout game with 36 points and
Kevin Deans was nearly as strong
with 21 but it was Jonathan Young's
5-6 shooting from the foul line in
the final minute that was the
difference. Moore led SU in scoring
with nearly 20 points per night over
the three games and 5 boards. Deans
averaged 19 points and six rebounds
while Young added 9 points and 5
assists each contest. |
