Congratulations to Mountaineer teams on a perfect first weekend! Schreiner teams went 4-0 in the first week of the year. Special thanks goes to all the SU students, faculty and staff who supported our teams during the holiday weekend. We had great crowds and excitement and that, in part, led to our teams' success.

This week, Women's Soccer begins its American Southwest Conference season and Volleyball does the same next Tuesday. Tennis and Golf get started on their fall seasons as well. Here's a quick look back at last weekend's action and a schedule for the week ahead.

VOLLEYBALL (2-0): Schreiner posted season opening wins over two NAIA scholarship programs. First, SU beat Our Lady of the Lake before a rowdy holiday weekend crowd in Edington Center, 3-1. Monday, the Mountaineers traveled to Austin and beat Huston-Tillotson, 3-2. Sophomore Tiffany Miller and freshman Caitlyn Gayle provided the power at the net during the two matches. Sophomore Brittany Alvillar was tops in digs and juniors Julie Peddy and Malorie Westerholm shared the lead role in assists.

MEN'S SOCCER (1-0): SU lost its scheduled first match due to storms, but looked solid in its revised season-opener, gaining a 2-1 win over St. Thomas. Schreiner took a 2-0 first half lead on goals by junior Ryan Ross (assist from senior Roberto Garcia) and freshman Juan Bonilla (assisted by freshman Krisjon Phillips). Senior Jeff Winton and the SU defense had a shutout working but a Mountaineer penalty in the final two minutes gave St. Thomas a penalty kick which they converted.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (1-0): Schreiner dominated the match with visiting University of Dallas and cruised to a 5-0 opening day win. The Mountaineers dominance was clearly evident in shots, as SU held a 38-0 advantage. SU got two goals from freshmen Natalie White and one goal each from freshman Danni Gomez, sophomore Shae Cárdenas and junior Julie Goodhew. Freshman goalkeeper Kari Kriegel earned her first win and shutout.
