Opens with Two Tough Losses at D-II TAMUI
Schreiner opened its 2008 season with two close
losses at Texas A&M International, an NCAA
Division II program. The Mountaineers
rallied to tie the score of the opening game at
2-2 in the sixth inning when junior Lyndsie
Travis hit her first home run of the year. TAMUI answered in the seventh with the
game-deciding run and a 3-2 win.
In the nightcap, it was a bit of deja vu.
The Mountaineers (0-2) trailed early, and then
rallied to tie the score at 4-4. Texas A&M
International scored three runs in the sixth
inning and went on to record a 7-4 win.
Freshman Becca Hay threw a solid game in the
opener - her first collegiate game. She
gave up only four hits in 6-2/3 innings of work,
and only two earned runs against a scholarship program. Despite the fine
outing, she picked up the loss.
Travis had two of SU's 9 hits on the day.
Patsy Toman also pitched her first game at
Schreiner in the nightcap, giving up six runs on
13 hits. She held Texas A&M International
in check for four innings but the home team
broke through for five runs in the final two
innings - four earned. |
