Schreiner
Softball Sweeps Sul Ross State
Junior
Patsy Toman threw two complete game wins as
Schreiner earned a doubleheader sweep over
visiting Sul Ross State. The Mountaineers
(5-13 in ASC) won the opener, 8-3, and the
nightcap, 2-0. Toman scattered six hits in
the second game shutout.
In game one, SU quickly erased a 1-0 deficit in
the bottom of the first inning by scoring two
runs. The Mountaineers would not trail
again the rest of the night. Junior Tara
Gonzales provided the pop by contributing three
doubles in four at-bats. Sophomore Lindsay
Rutkowski also had three hits as the
Mountaineers banged out 12 hits in the game.
Freshman Marla Jendrusch drove in two runs.
In the second game, Schreiner could not find an
answer for Sul Ross (1-21 in ASC) pitcher
Valerie Olivarez. SU could only manage two
hits but took advantage of three Lady Lobos
errors in the bottom of the fourth inning to
score their two runs. Toman drove in one
run and junior Autumn Vara the other on a
sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice.
The Mountaineers will look to complete the
series sweep tomorrow with two more games
against the Lady Lobos. It will be senior
day and the final home games for SU standout
Megan Eichman. |
