SB, Toman
Continue Late Season Run with Sweep of TLU
Junior
Patsy Toman threw two more complete game wins as
Schreiner earned a doubleheader sweep over
Texas Lutheran. She gave up only two
earned runs in the two victories. The
Mountaineers, winners of six straight games,
jumped ahead in each game early and took
control.
In the first game, SU (9-13 in ASC) needed only
one hit to take a quick 2-0 lead in the first
inning at Seguin. The Mountaineers took
control in the second inning as freshman Marla
Jendrusch and juniors Lyndsie Travis (double, 2
RBI) and Tara Gonzales all drove in runs to make
it 6-0. Travis helped her own cause in the
fourth inning with an RBI single to make it 8-0
and Schreiner eventually won, 8-3.
In the second game, Schreiner had two hits and
took advantage of two Lady Bulldog (5-17 in ASC)
errors to gain a 2-0 lead. The lead
doubled in the third inning as Toman again drove
in a run and junior Autumn Vara did the same
later in the inning. That was more than
enough run support for Toman, who also won her
sixth straight game, this one a 6-0 shutout.
On the day, Travis and Gonzales each had four
hits. Toman added three hits.
Travis drove in four runs in the two games,
followed by Gonzalas and Toman with two each.
The Mountaineers play their final two games
today in another doubleheader at TLU. SU
has already clinched fifth spot in the ASC West
and has a chance to move up to fourth place.
Their nine ASC wins is a 50% improvement over
last year and the most in the last four seasons. |
