Mountaineers
Beat SW and Trinity,
Lose First Game to ETBU
Schreiner's starting pitchers dominated two
teams from the SCAC conference in 5-0 and 9-1
wins over Southwestern and Trinity in the first
day of the LeTourneau Spring Classic. On
Saturday in the first game of the day, Schreiner
fell to fellow ASC member East Texas Baptist,
5-0, for their first loss of the season.
In the first game of the weekend, freshman Becca
Hay was much more effective
than in her opening game last week, throwing a
two-hitter at the Pirates (3-4) and SU (4-1)
jumped out to quick 3-0 lead and were never
threatened. Senior Lyndsie Travis later
belted a two-run homer, her first of the season,
to cap the scoring.
Senior Patsy Toman (2-0) was nearly as dominant
in the second game Friday -
and also more effective than in her opening game
last week - allowing only three hits in another
complete game performance. Schreiner is
now 3-0 vs. Trinity (2-7) this season.
Senior Tara Gonzales had two hits in the
nightcap and drove in three runs. No other
details of the games were available.
In Saturday's first game, Hay (2-1) only allowed
four hits against the perennially-strong ETBU
(6-0) team, and two runs, but SU committed three
costly errors that allowed three more runs.
The Mountaineers managed only three hits.
Schreiner was to play the host team, LeTourneau,
Saturday night. |
