AZ Trip

Schreiner
needed only 10 innings to put away their first
two opponents on the first day of their spring
break Arizona trip. SU (9-2) pounded
Wisconsin-Platteville, 13-5, and then was even
more dominant against Amherst, 10-2. Both
games were stopped after 5 innings on the mercy
rule.In
the first game, freshman Becca Hay (5-1) pitched
a complete game and got plenty of run support.
The Mountaineers scored five runs in the first,
five more in the second and three in the third
inning. Schreiner pounded out 11 hits and
hit four UWP pitchers hard.
In the second game, again SU jumped out to a
quick, big lead. Schreiner scored three
runs in the first and exploded for seven in the
second inning to end all doubt. Senior
Patsy Toman (4-1) had a shutout going into the
fifth inning when Amherst scored two late runs
but couldn't avoid the mercy rule.
Schreiner pounded 13 hits in the game.
No other
information was available. SU plays two
more games today and a final two games tomorrow.
Their last game will be against the nation's #2
ranked team (Wisconsin-Eau Claire). Then
the Mountaineers return to Kerrville and open
ASC divisional play this Friday and Saturday
with their first home games of the season. |
