DON GREEN
Head Coach
email:  dmgreen@schreiner.edu

Don Green has accepted the position of head coach for Schreiner Softball.  Don comes to SU with a wealth of experience both as a coach and player.  He started his collegiate playing career at Lamar (CO) Community College where he played baseball for one year.  He moved to Trinidad State (CO) Junior College the next year and earned All-American, All-Region and All-District recognition for a team that finished 5th at the World Series.  He enrolled at Phillips (OK) University for his junior and senior seasons and was named All-Conference in baseball each year.  He set the NAIA national record for most consecutive at-bats without a strikeout (107).   Don served a Assistant Baseball Coach at Phillips in 1988 while he finished up his bachelor's degree in Health and Recreation.  Upon graduation, he switched gears and began playing men's major fastpitch softball including a stint with the Clearwater Bombers Fastpitch Club.   He was a starting infielder for the Bombers when they finished 20th in the world tournament.

While playing fastpitch, Don also returned to school to get his Masters degree.  In 1996, he graduated from University of Tennessee - Chattanooga with a Masters of Education.  With degree in hand, he returned to Lamar Community College as the assistant baseball coach and was in that capacity for one season when he was named the first head coach for Lamar Softball.  That fledgling program improved quickly and the 1998 team earned a national ranking that got as high as #6 in the nation as Don earned Region IX Coach-of-the-Year.  During his down time, Don continued to compete in fastpitch, this time for the Colorado Rage (Men's A), and that team finished the season ranked #22 in the country.  In 1999, he was hired to start the Softball program at Odessa (TX) College.  Odessa is now recognized as one of the top juco programs in the nation.

He is married to wife Carrie, who works in the medical profession and the couple lives on a ranch in Utopia.
