Mountaineers Win Again,
Now 3-1 in ASC
(9/22/06)
It was a little different,
but the similarities were
also there from the other
two wins. It doesn't
really matter how it
happens, Schreiner
Volleyball now has won three
straight ASC matches and is
3-1 in league play.
The latest win was 3-0 over
visiting McMurry but it
certainly wasn't easy.
Schreiner started quickly in
game one, getting out to
leads that reached 11 points
and were able to keep the
Lady Indians from mounting
any comeback. In the
end, SU won convincingly
30-22. From there on,
the match was a nip-and-tuck
affair. The
Mountaineers broke to an
early lead in game two, but
McMurry answered and took
its own lead. The two
teams would trade the lead
throughout with neither team
holding more than a three
point edge. Schreiner
got the big points at the
end and earned the important
31-29 game win to go up,
2-0. In game three,
the Mountaineers started
slowly and quickly fell
behind by 5 points. SU
would battle back but
couldn't tie or go ahead.
McMurry eventually owned a
29-24 lead and had game
point. SU sophomore
Marissa Stearns served 7
straight points and SU
shocked McMurry in game
three, 31-29, for the three
game sweep.
Freshman middle blocker,
Tiffany Miller led all
players with 15 kills, while
Kassie Barlow and
Marissa
Stearns
each added 10.
Setter
Julie Peddy had a
strong night with 30
assists.
