Schreiner Goes 1-2 at ASC

The SU Volleyball team
started slowly, got much
better and then tapered off
at the ASC Crossover in
Seguin. The
Mountaineers won one of the
three matches, which
includes splitting two
five-game matches on
Saturday. With the
weekend's results, SU's
record is now 5-6 in the ASC.
SU started the weekend on a
low note by getting swept in
three straight games by UT -
Dallas. The scores
were 30-26, 30-21 and 30-20.
The Mountaineer offense
simply never got going.
Usually dependable middle
hitter
Tiffany Miller
had her worst offensive
outing of the season with
only six kills.
Freshman
Kaycee
Westberry led
Schreiner with 11 kills.
Defensive wiz
Whitney Barron
only managed 9 digs.
Julie
Peddy led the
Mountaineers with 10 digs
and 23 assists.
On Saturday, Schreiner won
its first five-game match of
the year over Mississippi
College. The game
scores were 24-30, 30-24,
30-24, 28-30 and 15-8.
Miller and Barron returned
to form leading SU with 23
kills and 20 digs
respectively.
Westberry added 17 kills and
Peddy contributed 54
assists.
In the weekend's final match
against UT - Tyler, the
Mountaineers lost the first
two games (21-30 and 22-30),
won the next two 30-28 and
30-17 but dropped the
decisive 5th game 15-10.
Malorie Westerholm
set the defensive pace with
14 digs in the loss. |
