Schreiner's 3-2 Win at
McMurry Puts Mountaineers
into Playoff Picture
(10/14/06)
Schreiner Volleyball took
care of business on the road
on Friday night and their
run to a possible playoff
birth took a big step
forward. The
Mountaineers traveled to
Abilene and faced a game
McMurry squad but was able
to come away with a key 3-2
win to improve to 7-6 in ASC
play. The win,
combined with Sul Ross
State's upset loss to Howard
Payne in three games, gives
the Mountaineers the inside
slot to the postseason.
While SU has already
completed home-and-home
series with the ASC West
Division's top two teams
(Hardin-Simmons and Texas
Lutheran), Sul Ross still
has to play at
Hardin-Simmons on Wednesday
and will host Texas Lutheran
in Alpine on October 27th.
Both teams still have to
play one more ASC Crossover
Tournament but Schreiner has
already played the tougher
half of the tournament draw
while SRS has the tougher
draw remaining. The
two teams also battle in the
season finale which could
decide the third seed and
final playoff spot.
In Friday's win, SU dropped
the first (30-27) and third
(30-26) games but won game
two, 30-21. With the
match in doubt, the
Mountaineers stepped up
their effort and won the
final two games
convincingly, 30-19 and
15-7.
Tiffany Miller
again led the offensive
onslaught with 24 kills and
a .327 attack percentage,
while
Whitney Barron
came up with 27 digs to lead
the defense.
Julie
Peddy had 50
assists and 17 digs. |
