Mountaineers Win Two of
Three - Hold Third Place
Alone
(10/21/06)
One year ago, Schreiner
Volleyball was limping
through a two-win season.
Fast forward twelve months
and the Mountaineers may be
one win away from clinching
a spot in the ASC Tournament
after taking two of three
matches at the ASC Crossover
in Sherman. SU started
the weekend with a 3-2 win
over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
On Saturday, Schreiner
dropped a 3-1 decision to
Eastern Division-leading
East Texas Baptist.
Later on Saturday, the
Mountaineers rebounded by
pounding LeTourneau, 3-0.
Schreiner now stands at 9-7
in the ASC West Division -
one game ahead of Sul Ross
State with two matches
remaining for each team.
The two teams meet in Alpine
next Saturday and a playoff
spot could be on the line.
Against Mary Hardin-Baylor,
Schreiner dropped game one
(30-25) but rebounded with
three straight game wins
(30-28, 30-23, 30-23) to get
the much-needed neutral-site
victory. On Saturday
morning, the Mountaineers
had to battle tournament
host ETBU and quickly fell
behind two games (30-17,
30-20). SU won game
three, 30-22, but ETBU
roared back with a 30-14 win
in decisive game four.
In the match against
LeTourneau, it was
all-Schreiner, all-match as
the Mountaineers routed LU,
30-20, 30-15, 30-21.
As they have all season, the
Mountaineers were again led,
statistically, by
Tiffany Miller,
Whitney Barron
and
Julie
Peddy. |
