SU Routes CUA, Postseason
Magic Number is 1
(10/23/06)
Schreiner rolled past
Concordia-Austin at home,
3-0, and in the process
clinched no worse than a tie
for third in the ASC West
Division. SU started
fast and jumped all over
visiting CUA, winning the
first two games, 30-16 and
30-17. In game three,
the Mountaineers were not as
sharp but won the big points
to close out the match,
30-26.
With two matches remaining
in the regular season, the
Mountaineers are now 10-7 in
the ASC West and lead
fourth-place Sul Ross State
by 1-1/2 games. Sul
Ross has two ASC matches
remaining, including a
season-ending match in
Alpine against Schreiner.
SU has one non-conference
game, Thursday at home vs.
Huston-Tillotson, before
going to SRS. If Sul
Ross State defeats ASC West
Division leading Texas
Lutheran at home on Friday
night, the two teams will
play Saturday for the third
spot in the ASC Tournament.
Schreiner has never played
in the ASC Tournament in its
7 years in the conference.
If the two teams finish in a
tie for third place, Sul
Ross State would win the
tiebreaker because it would
have beaten TLU and thus
would have a better record
against the ASC West
Division champion. |
