SU Rolls to 3-0 Sweep in
Barron's Final Home Match
(10/26/06)
Senior
Whitney Barron's
four-year career was
celebrated in a pre-game
Senior Night ceremony.
Once the non-conference
match with Huston-Tillotson
started, her contributions -
as they have throughout her
career were again central to
the Schreiner cause.
Barron's defensive prowess
resulted in a match-high 22
digs as she led the
Mountaineers to a 3-0 match
sweep over the visitors from
Austin. SU started
with a 30-24 first game win
and followed that up with a
30-18 win in game number
two. Game three was
more of a back-and-forth
contest between the two
schools but a late
Mountaineer run was more
than enough to hold off
Huston-Tillotson's rally
attempt. Schreiner won
game three by the score of
30-27.
Tiffany Miller
was Schreiner's leading
power producer with a
match-high 17 kills.
Kassie
Barlow was SU's
most efficient offensive
threat with nine kills and a
.412 attack percentage.
Julie
Peddy added 41
assists.
This match was a brief
distraction as SU now
focuses on its final
regular-season match.
Saturday night, Schreiner
plays at Sul Ross State.
If SRS wins at home tonight
against ASC West
Division-leading Texas
Lutheran, Saturday's winner
will claim the final ASC
Tournament spot.
Should Sul Ross State lose
either match, the
Mountaineers would claim
their first ASC Tournament
spot in the seven years that
SU has been a member of the
conference.
Regardless of this weekend's
outcome, it's a big
turnaround for Schreiner
Volleyball. Last year,
the Mountaineers could only
manage a 2-22 record.
This year, SU is 11-14
overall and 10-7 in the ASC
and has already locked up no
worse than a third place
tie. |
