Miller Earns Newcomer of the
Year, First Team All-ASC
West

(11/07/06)
Freshman
Tiffany Miller
certainly had an impact on
the Schreiner Volleyball
team this year. She
was the team's top offensive
threat just about every
night and was one of the
reasons that SU was able to
post an 11-win season one
year after a two-win
campaign in 2005.
Those contributions were
noted when the ASC announced
its all-conference team as
Miller was named first team
All-ASC West Division and
also the ASC's Newcomer of
the Year. She was one
of four Mountaineers to earn
all conference honors as
teammates
Whitney Barron,
Kassie Barlow and
Julie
Peddy earned Honorable
Mention All-ASC.
Miller was second in the ASC
in kills (3.94/game) and
fifth in the conference in
hitting percentage (.298).
Her 386 kills during the
season were nearly 150 ahead
of the next most on the
team, fellow freshman
Kaycee
Westberry with
239. Her total blocks
(74) were also tops for the
Mountaineers.
For Barron, a senior, her
story is made in the
trenches. She is
unquestionably the top
defensive player for SU and
ranked #6 in the ASC in digs
with 4.96 per game in 2006.
She is Schreiner
Volleyball's all-time leader
in digs and holds most of
the individual records in
that category as well.
Barlow, a junior, had to
play out of position all
year due to injuries to
teammates, so her stats were
not up to her usual
standards. She still
ranked #2 on the team in
total blocks (59) and attack
percentage (.166) and third
in kills (209). Peddy,
a sophomore, was fourth in
the ASC in assists at just
under 10/game in just her
first season running the SU
offense. |
