Barron Selected as ASC West
Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
(8/22/06) SU senior
Whitney
Barron was named the American Southwest Conference (ASC)
West Division preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The Richmond, TX, native was voted to the honor by
conference coaches and SIDs. The award comes after a
junior season which saw Barron set school records in
several defensive categories. On Friday, Oct. 7, 2005
Barron set the school record for digs in a match, with
38 digs in a loss to LeTourneau University. Her 420
digs over the course of last fall’s campaign were nine
short of a school record for digs in a season, but were
easily enough to break the Schreiner record for career
digs. Barron’s 5.12 digs per game were second best in
the ASC, and best overall in the conference’s West
Division. Her efforts helped the team to a record
setting 19.5 digs per game. |
