HSU
Uses 9-0 Run to Close Out Schreiner, 3-1
Photo: Hardin-Simmons' rallied for a game
four, and match, win.
Schreiner was one
point away from squaring its match against
Hardin-Simmons but didn't score again and lost
the game and match. Down 2-1 in games,
Schreiner held a commanding 24-17 lead in game
four before the Lady Cowgirls' rally.
HSU (6-5, 3-0 in ASC) won the first game 25-22
but the Mountaineers (5-8, 2-3 in ASC) rallied
to even the match with a 25-20 win in game two.
Hardin-Simmons, perennially an ASC championship
contending program, showed its toughness by
carrying game three, 25-22. In game four,
Schreiner showed its own prowess, but taking
command early. SU led 20-14 and held the
seemingly insurmountable edge with seven match
points in hand before their decisive rally.
Still, the Mountaineers gave HSU all it could
handle and again showed improvement. The
loss, though, was another tough one for the home
team to digest.
Once again, SU's Caitlin Gayle (17 kills, .444
attach percentage) and Tiffany Miller (15 and
.393), the top two ranked attackers in the ASC
statistically, led the way. Senior Marissa
Stearns also had double digit kills with 11.
Misty Fletcher tallied 19 digs. Malorie
Westerholm had 38 assists.
SU doesn't have much time to think about what
might have been as McMurry, another very tough
ASC foe, comes to town for a match tomorrow at
noon in Edington Center. |
