Volleyball Splits Opening Day Matches at Final
ASC Crossover
Schreiner defeated UT-Tyler, 3-1, early in the
day but fell to UT-Dallas by the same game score
later in the day at the second and final ASC
Crossover tournament in Belton. The loss,
combined with McMurry's sweep of the same two
teams, dropped Schreiner (11-11, 8-6 in ASC) one
game behind McMurry for the third and final ASC
tournament spot with four matches remaining.
SU dropped the first game against UT-Tyler, but
then took the next three games to post the
important win. Tiffany Miller led the way
with 14 kills, 5 blocks and 5 digs.
Brittany Alvillar had a season-high 23 digs in
the match. Sophomore Misty Fletcher had 10
kills and 13 digs. Caitlin Gayle and
Xandria White each added 8 kills and 4 and 3
blocks respectively. Marissa Stearns had
four aces and Malorie Westerholm had 45 assists.
In the nightcap, the Mountaineers just weren't
able to muster the same kind of performance and
were beaten by the Lady Comets (16-7, 8-3 in
ASC). Again, Miller was strong in the
match with 12 kills. White had the same
number of kills to tie for the team lead.
Alvillar again had the team high in digs, this
time with 18. Westerholm added 38 assists
and 12 digs. Fletcher and Stearns had six
kills each but it was not enough to get the win.
The Mountaineers play their final match of the
tournament today when they face tournament host
Mary Hardin-Baylor. |
