Schreiner Falls to Host Pacific in First Day of
Boxer Classic
Host Pacific University (OR) defeated Schreiner
3-0 but had trouble with the Mountaineers in the
first match of the Boxer Classic in Forest
Grove, OR.
The Mountaineers (1-2) fell behind early in the
first game, trailing 8-2. The Boxers (2-0)
maintained that lead at 19-12 before SU rallied.
SU closed to within two at 21-19 and closed even
further to 24-23 before Pacific got the decisive
final point in a 25-23 win.
In game two,
Pacific trailed 7-6 but ran off 14 of the next
18 points and went on to a 25-15 win.
The final game was even tighter than the first
as the two teams traded the lead throughout.
It was stilled tied at 18 all but Pacific got
the big points when they needed them for a 25-22
win.
Caitlin Gayle led SU with 8 kills.
Freshman Kayla Gunstream had her best match of
the young season with six kills and a .308
attack percentage. Sophomore Audra Burnap
led SU in both assists (19) and digs (8).
SU actually had more blocks than Pacific, 7-6
but were dominated in digs 53-35.
The Mountaineers play three matches on Saturday
before returning to Kerrville on Sunday. |
