Mountaineer VB Rallies to Pound Two ASC Foes on Day #2

ALPINE, TX - After coming close to knocking off an unbeaten nationally-ranked team on Friday, Schreiner had little trouble in lopsided wins over LeTourneau and UT-Tyler in the final day of the ASC Crossover at Sul Ross State.   SU won 3-0 in both matches.

In the Saturday morning match vs. LETU, the Mountaineers (15-10, 9-5 in ASC) won decisively by 25-18, 25-20, 25-14 scores.  Senior Tiffany Miller had six kills to lead the way.  Seniors Brittany Alvillar and Misty Fletcher and freshman Denise Pichot each had six digs while Pichot had 15 assists.

Schreiner had nearly identical results vs. UT-Tyler, winning that afternoon match by the scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-19.  No SU results were available.

With the wins, SU remains in fourth place but also within two games of first place Hardin-Simmons in the ASC West standings with two weeks to go.  Schreiner hosts ASC West Division #2 Texas Lutheran in Kerrville on Wednesday night in Edington Gym at 7:00 pm.  Of SU's remaining four matches, three are in Edington against the three teams just ahead of the Mountaineers in the ASC West.  The fourth match won't be easy either as it's a road tilt at Howard Payne next weekend.  Still, with two weeks to go, the Mountaineers have a hand in their own fate for the ASC postseason and most of the action will come to campus over the next two weeks.
