Mountaineers Bounce Back with 3-0 Road Win at HPU
BROWNWOOD, TX - Schreiner came up big in a must-win situation to keep its ASC playoff hopes alive with a 3-0 road win at Howard Payne on Saturday afternoon. Schreiner won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-20. The Mountaineers were coming off an emotionally draining 3-2 loss to Texas Lutheran on Saturday but couldn't afford a letdown. Senior Tiffany Miller and her teammates made sure that didn't happen.
Miller continued her run of
dominant
late season play - which recently
included being named ASC
Offensive Player of the Week -
with 11 more kills to pace the
offensive effort at HPU.
SU played one of its best
matches of the year and did it
under duress as the team has no
room for a loss the rest of the
way. The Mountaineers put
down 34 kills with just five
errors on 109 attempts.
The defense was just as stellar,
recording 43 digs and 9 blocks
in just the three games.
With the win, SU is now 10-6 in
the ASC (16-11 overall) and is
one game behind McMurry for the
third spot in the ASC West
standings. Only three
teams from the division make the
postseason tournament. The
result means that the
Mountaineers will have a huge
match Wednesday when that same
McMurry team comes to Edington
Gym on SU's campus for a 6:30 pm
contest. Next Saturday,
Schreiner concludes its season
with Senior Day as Schreiner
hosts ASC West Division leader
Hardin-Simmons at 3:00 pm in
Edington.
