DuPerier's
11 Kills Lead SU to Win over WBU;
First Day Split
KINGSVILLE, TX --
Schreiner Volleyball opened the
Howard Wallace era with a split
of a pair of matches against
scholarship programs; a 3-0 win
over Wayland Baptist and a 3-0
loss to host Texas
A&M-Kingsville.
In the first match against WBU
of the NAIA, sophomore Callie
DuPerier led the Mountaineers
(1-1) to a 3-0 win by scores of
25-21, 25-22 and 25-21.
She had 11 kills in the match
and a .318 attack percentage.
Junior Veronica Castillo had 6
kills to just one error for a
.455 attack percentage and
junior Jaemi Groves was even
better with six kills to zero
errors (.750) and added five
aces. Groves also had 26
assists. Junior Jamie
Burns had 14 digs. Junior
Brittany Boyett had seven kills.
In the evening match against
NCAA Division II Texas
A&M-Kingsville, it was a
one-sided affair with the hosts
winning by 25-10, 25-13, 25-13
scores. DuPerier, Castillo
and Boyett led with six, five
and four kills respectively.
Sophomore Lauren Prukop had
three kills and a team-high
attack percentage of .333.
Groves had 15 assists and Burns
and Groves tied with four digs
each.
The Mountaineers play two more
matches today at the Texas
A&M-Kingsville Invitational.
First is a contest against NAIA
Our Lady of the Lake and then a
match against a familiar foe,
McMurry. McMurry was a
long-time member of the American
Southwest Conference but left
the league this year to move to
NCAA Division II. SU
opens its home schedule on
Friday, September 14th at 7:00
pm against that same
Hardin-Simmons team that was
projected to win the division.
That match will be at the Edington Center on the Schreiner
campus.
