ETBU's
Big Runs in Each Half Do in Mountaineers
Big runs in each
half by visiting East Texas Baptist were too much for
Schreiner to overcome as the Tigers posted a 81-68 win.
Schreiner worked hard to even the score at 22 a piece with
eight minutes remaining in the first half, but then saw ETBU
pull away with a 25-5 run. At halftime, ETBU held a
comfortable 48-30 lead on 52% shooting, while the
Mountaineers could only manage 32% and committed 14
turnovers.
If the Tigers thought the
Schreiner was done, a 25-13 start to the second half ended
those thoughts. SU pulled within six at 61-55 with
9:30 remaining, but again hit a crucial cold spell.
East Texas Baptist outscored SU, 16-2 over the next five
minutes. Despite a late run by the home team that cut
the lead in half, it was too little, too late.
ETBU's (9-4, 5-3 in ASC) Sade'
Stewart led all scorers with 17 points while teammate Mary
Slaughter grabbed 16 rebounds. Schreiner was led by
Courtney Davis who had 15 points off the bench. Kerrie
Carter also contributed off the bench, pulling down 8 rounds
to go with 9 points. Monica Enriquez had 14 points and
8 assists.
The Mountaineers (2-8, 2-5 in ASC) were hurt by 26 turnovers
and shot only 36% from the field (20% from 3-point range) on
the night.
