Turned: Schreiner Uses Big Runs to Earn Victory
After falling
victim to big opponent scoring runs in recent games, this
time it was Schreiner that had the big runs which proved too
much for LeTourneau to overcome in a 74-52 SU win. SU
fell behind early 8-4 but once the Mountaineers got going,
they got on top to stay. Schreiner (3-5 in ASC, 3-8
overall) scored 20 straight points to go up 24-8.
LeTourneau (1-8 in ASC, 4-10 overall) was able to whittle
that lead down to 34-23 at the break. The Mountaineers
held LU to 22% shooting in the first half compared to 49%
for the home team.
In the second half, Schreiner
held a 42-29 lead at the fifteen minute mark when sophomore
point guard
Monica Enriquez injured her
ankle. Although LeTourneau quickly cut into the lead,
the Mountaineers regrouped and used superior rebounding and
defense to expand the lead to 64-42 over the next 10 minutes
and put the game out of reach.
The Mountaineers dominated on
the boards, 57-33, and held LeTourneau to only 26% shooting
for the game. The only downside was that the
Mountaineers committed 32 turnovers.
Courtney Davis led all SU
scorers with 15 points while
Lynn Stow had 14 to go with
7 rebounds.
Kerrie Carter again was big
off the bench, contributing 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5
assists.
Liberty Liesmann added 10
rebounds.
