Mountaineers Improve to 2-0 with Road Win at UT-D
Schreiner is finding a
recipe for success in this young season and it revolves
around a strong second-half performance. That may not
be totally accurate in this case as SU started it's winning
rally late in the first half. Regardless, that recipe
was a winner again as SU improved to 2-0 in ASC play with a
83-78 road win at UT-Dallas.
The Comets looked like they might turn the first half into a
route. With just more than six minutes remaining until
halftime, UT-D had built a 11-point lead. Back-to-back
three pointers by
Lynn Stow and
Courtney Davis provided a
spark as SU closed the first half on a 14-3 run and the two
teams were tied, 40-40, at halftime. In the second
half, UT-D again nudged ahead by four but Schreiner used
it's quickness and pressure defense to hold the Comets
scoreless for nearly five minutes. During that time SU
outscored the home team, 13-2, and led 63-56 with just over
eight minutes remaining.
The Comets rallied several times and tied the score at
78-all, with just over 90-seconds left in regulation but
UT-D would not score again. A basket by
Monica Enriquez, two
free-throws by Stow and one more by Enriquez would provide
the final margin of victory.
The Mountaineers were led by Enriquez with 20 points, six
assists, six rebounds and four steals.
Vanessa Lopez had 19 points
and 9 rebounds. Stow added 18, including shooting
4-for-5 from three point range, and Davis contributed 16
points off the bench. |
