Southwestern Pulls Away for 74-56 Win
Southwestern
University used a 10-2 run to close the first half and then
a 12-2 run to start the second half to pull away from
Schreiner in a non-conference game in Kerrville.
The two teams had been locked in a tight struggle and were
tied, 35-35, with three minutes remaining in the first half
but the Pirates' size advantage led to a decisive edge in
points in the paint and allowed Southwestern to pull away.
The Pirates were led by Kendal George with 22 points.
Schreiner was led by Vanessa Lopez with 15 points and Kerrie
Carter with 11 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Monica Enriquez had four assists and four steals to go with
8 points.
Southwestern held a 49-41 rebounding edge and outshot the
Mountaineers, 42%-33%, from the field but held a decided
39%-17% edge from beyond the three point arc. Was shot
3-for-18 from long range including 0-for-7 in the second
half.
