Mississippi Runs Away in
Second Half for Road Win
Mississippi College took
advantage of 14 more
second half shots and
controlled the boards in
the final period to
defeat undermanned
Schreiner, 71-56.
Schreiner had four
players who were either
unavailable or limited
due to illness.
Despite the problems,
the Mountaineers (2-7,
2-4 in ASC) were able to
hold a lead for most of
the first half. SU
still maintained a
1-point lead, 19-18,
with less than five
minutes before the
break, but the Lady
Choctaws (5-6, 2-4 in
ASC) finished the half
with a 7-1 run and a
25-20 lead at
intermission.
In the second half, MC
came out and quickly
built the lead to 36-24
just three minutes into
the second half.
Schreiner slowly cut
into the lead and had it
down to 38-33 five
minutes later, but
Mississippi College used
its superior size and
inside strength to pull
away in the final 10
minutes. IN the
second half, Mississippi
had 12 more attempts
than SU and had a
commanding rebounding
edge (17-8).
Junior Monica Enriquez
led the Mountaineers in
all categories, points
(15), rebounds (5) and
assists (6).
Sophomore Courtney Davis
had 14 points on 6-11
shooting. Freshman
Anna Fareed added 12
points. MC's
Rosemary Green was the
game's top scorer with
17 points.
