SU, Davis "Shoot" Past
LeTourneau, 68-66
Schreiner shot 60% from
the field for the first
3/4 of the game and then
held off a late
LeTourneau rally attempt
to escape with a 68-66
road win.
Sophomore Courtney Davis
led SU with 24 points on
9/14 shooting and was
also 4-for-5 from the
free throw line while
playing all 40 minutes
of the game.
Schreiner and Davis' hot
shooting led the
Mountaineers to a 38-34
lead at halftime.
LeTourneau immediately
cut the lead in half in
the opening seconds of
the second period but
the Mountaineers (5-8,
4-5 in ASC) bounced
right back with a run to
keep LeTourneau at bay.
One reason that the Lady
Yellow Jackets (3-10,
1-8) couldn't respond
was the tough defense
applied by SU's
sophomore guard Lindsey
Miyatake applied to LU's
leading scorer, Kristen
Baskin. The 4'10
Miyatake was able to
limit Baskin to only
five points in the final
20 minutes of action.
Still, LeTourneau
wouldn't quit. SU
held a 10 point lead
with under seven minutes
remaining, but the Lady
Jackets mounted a late
rally. LU trailed
by one point, the
closest they would get
in the game's final 24
minutes, 67-66, but
junior Xandria White hit
1-of-2 free throws.
LeTourneau had a
mid-range jumper to tie
the game and force
regulation but it would
not fall.
In addition to Davis'
sharp shooting,
Schreiner was also paced
by junior guard Monica
Enriquez (16 points, 4
rebounds, 4 assists, 4
steals) and freshman
Anna Fareed (16 points
on 10/15 free throw
shooting, 5 rebounds, 4
assists). The
Mountaineers held
LeTourneau to 37%
shooting for the game.
