Lady Lobos Rebound to
Win, 62-54
Sul Ross State dominated
the boards -
particularly in the
first half - and held
off an early second half
SU rally for a 62-54
home win. The
officials were busy as
the two teams combined
for 50 fouls but neither
team could capitalize by
making their free
throws.
Schreiner (4-6 in ASC)
led for most of the
first half but the Lady
Lobos complete
domination on the glass
(38-12 in the first
half) gave Sul Ross the
extra shots it needed to
erase the deficit and
ultimately pull away for
victory.
Sul Ross (4-6 in ASC)
took a 29-22 lead into
halftime and quickly
extended the margin by
scoring the first five
points of the second
half. Less than
four minutes in, SRS had
its biggest lead of the
game, 34-22. The
Mountaineers rallied by
countering with a 12-2
run to get back within
two points, 36-34, but
Sul Ross answered again
and effectively created
the margin it needed by
outscoring SU 14-5 over
the next 10 minutes.
Neither team shot the
ball well. Sul
Ross managed only 33%
from the field but that
was still better than
Schreiner which shot 30%
for the game. From
the free throw line, Sul
Ross made just 54% while
SU made 45% of its
shots.
Monica Enriquez led SU
with 15 points and 11
rebounds. Freshman
Anna Fareed had 13 and
7.
