Cowgirls Start Fast and
Gain Road Win
Hardin-Simmons only has
two conference loses and
quickly made sure that a
third would not occur in
Kerrville en route to an
83-71 win. HSU
(11-2 in ASC) got off to
a 22-8 lead over
Schreiner. That
lead expanded to 30-11
as the Cowgirls
dominated the sluggish
Mountaineers (4-9 in
ASC) throughout the
first half. SU
would close the gap
slightly and trailed
43-28 at halftime and
was probably fortunate
not to be farther
behind.
Hardin-Simmons pounded
SU, 26-9, in rebounds
and came up with 16
offensive rebounds.
The Cowgirls took twice
as many shots as
Schreiner in the first
20 minutes.
The second half didn't
go well early either as
SU's top scorer and
rebounder, junior Monica
Enriquez, was hurt going
for a loose ball just 14
seconds into the second
half.
Hardin-Simmons took
advantage and opened a
60-36 lead just 5
minutes into the second
half. Enriquez
would eventually return
and the Mountaineers
would rally, but could
get no closer than the
final score.
Freshman Anna Fareed had
a game-high 22 points to
lead SU and grabbed 5
rebounds. Enriquez
still managed 12 points
and six boards, despite
the injury.
Freshman Lee Richardson
also had 12 points.
Four HSU players scored
in double digits led by
Ashley Allen with 20.
