Concordia Edges SU with
Final Push
Concordia used a late
11-5 run in the final
2-1/2 minutes of
regulation to break the
game's 10th tie and give
Schreiner another tough
loss, 73-67.
Schreiner had just taken
its last lead of the
night, 62-60 on a jumper
by sophomore Courtney
Davis, but CTX (9-5 in
ASC) scored the next 8
points and held the edge
in the final minute of
action.
Schreiner started
slowly, caught back up
and then watched the
Tornadoes take an 11
point lead midway
through the opening
half. The
Mountaineers (4-11 in
ASC) used a 9-4 run to
get back within five but
CTX carried an eight
point lead into the
locker room, 33-25.
In the second half, SU
again started slowly and
fell behind by 13,
47-34, before mounting
their charge. SU
outscored Concordia,
14-1, over the next
seven minutes and then
the two teams traded
baskets and the lead.
There would be four lead
changes and six ties
over the next seven
minutes but it was
Concordia's final push
that decided the
outcome.
Schreiner used only
seven players - and
three starters (junior
Monica Enriquez, senior
Lynn Stow and freshman
Anna Fareed) played all
40 minutes of action.
SU was again controlled
on the offensive glass,
being out-rebounded
19-11, but shot a
sizzling 60% in the
second half. 27
turnovers hurt their
chances of success.
Enriquez had another
strong night, scoring 20
points and adding seven
rebounds, seven assists
and five steals.
Davis rebounded from a
recent scoring and
shooting slump with 17
points on 8-for-13
shooting. Fareed
contributed 14 points
and 7 rebounds.
CTX was led by Jennifer
Herman with a game-high
26 points and Laneen
Harris' 20 rebounds.
