SU Women Win 2nd
Straight ASC Road Game,
86-70
The Schreiner University
Women's Basketball team
feels right at home on
the road. The
latest proof was an
86-70 win at Ozarks in
Clarksville, AR.
It was the second
straight win for
Schreiner as it closed
2007 conference play on
a high note.
After traveling 10 hours
to get to the game, it
looked like the
Mountaineers had their
road legs early on and
fell behind the Lady
Eagles, 28-20, with just
over five minutes
remaining before
halftime. From
that point on, it was
all Schreiner as the
Mountaineers (2-3, 2-2
in ASC) closed with a
13-2 run to take a 33-30
lead at intermission.
Ozarks quickly but the
lead to one, but then the
SU onslaught continued
early in the second half
as SU went on a 9-0 run.
Ozarks closed the gap to
seven (51-44) but from then
on, Schreiner used precise
shooting from the
charity stripe to keep
the lead above double
digits the rest of the
way and seal
the victory.
Although Ozarks (0-7,
0-3 in ASC) out shot SU
51%-35% from the field,
Schreiner was a
jaw-dropping 38-45 from
the free throw line in
the game. One
other key statistic that
finally went the
Mountaineers way was
turnovers. SU has
been plagued by turnover
problems but had only 8
in the game (but forced
20 UO turnovers).
Once again, SU's
backcourt carried the
offensive load.
Junior Monica Enriquez
was a force in all three
offensive phases of the
game with a game-high 22
points, 9 rebounds and 5
assists. Sophomore
Courtney Davis had 20
points and also had 5
assists. Senior
Lynn Stow added 12
points and freshman Anna
Fareed came off the
bench to contribute 12
points of her own.
Enriquez, Davis and Stow
combined to go 28-30
(93%) from the foul line
and wouldn't let Ozarks
back into the game.
Schreiner has a
non-conference game on
Monday night before
traveling to Hawaii for
a pre-holiday tournament
next week.
