Can't Overcome Big Early
Deficit vs. Patriots

Monica Enriquez drives
for two of her team-high
23 points vs. UT-Tyler
Visiting UT-Tyler raced
out to a big lead and
was able to hold off any
attempted comebacks from
Schreiner for a 88-73
win in Kerrville.
The Patriots (4-1, 2-0
in ASC) ran away to a
31-10 lead in the first
12 minutes and held a
commanding 43-22 lead at
the break. SU can
look at its own
turnovers and interior
defense for some of the
problems. UT-Tyler
was able to get
plentiful shots in the
paint in the opening
half. When they
did have to step outside
to shoot from long
range, their shots hit
the mark with
regularity.
In the opening minutes
of the second half,
Schreiner (0-3, 0-1 in
ASC) got it together and
made a quick run.
SU came out and scored
the first 11 points to
cut the margin to 43-33
at the 17:17 mark.
The final points of the
run were started by
freshman Caitlin Gayle's
block and subsequent
basket by sophomore Mel
Bluhm. After a
short run by the
visitors, SU cut the
margin to single digits
on a basket by senior
Monica Enriquez that
made it, 48-39.
The Patriots put the
game away by scoring the
next 12 points.
Schreiner kept fighting
and was able to get the
lead back down to 11,
77-66, again fueled by
Enriquez (23 points, 7
rebounds, 7 assists) but
that was as good as it
got the rest of the way.
Freshman Ayesha Safo had
her best collegiate game
with 12 points.
Gayle was a force on the
boards, with 9 rebounds
while senior Xandria
White grabbed 8.
One bright spot is that
SU had 8 blocks in the
game, led by four by the
diminutive Enriquez.
Schreiner travels to
Louisiana and
Mississippi for a pair
of road games this
weekend.
