Ozarks Holds Off Visiting Schreiner, 58-53

Ozarks outscored visiting Schreiner 11-6 in the final 3:39 to pull out a 58-53 home win over the Mountaineers in Clarksville, AR.  Schreiner had erased a deficit that was as large as 12 points in the second half and was tied at 47-all before the late run.

SU (0-7 in ASC) scored the first four points of the game.  After Ozarks (2-5 in ASC) rallied, the two teams traded scores but the first half was more dominated by missed shots and fouls.  With five minutes before halftime, UO started pulling ahead and by halftime the Lady Eagles led 27-19.  Neither team shot more than 29% from the field in the first half and 19 fouls were called (12 on SU).  Usually dependable senior guard Monica Enriquez had a cold-shooting night.  She only scored 2 points but had four assists and four steals at halftime.

Early in the second half, Ozarks built its biggest lead of the game.  With 16:27 left, UO led 33-21.  That's when the Mountaineers led by senior Xandria White, mounted its charge.  White had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the second half and freshman LaTisha Hall added 8 second half points as Schreiner clawed back to tie the score at 47-47.

For the game, White scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds (both season highs).  Hall added 13 points.  Enriquez never found her shooting range, scoring 13 points under her season average of 19 ppg, but came up with 11 assists and 9 rebounds in the losing effort.  Turnovers (25) and free-throw shooting (11-25) were two contributing factors to the tough loss.  Enriquez, normally one of the ASC's best FT shooters (88%), was only 2-7 from the line in the game.
