UT-Dallas Shoots Past
SU, 75-56
Undefeated UT-Dallas had
more trouble than it
expected with Schreiner
but still came away with
a convincing 75-56 win
in Dallas.
Considering that one
team hadn't lost and one
team hasn't yet won, it
looked like a mismatch
but that was hardly the
case on the court.
In the first half, the
game was a close battle
throughout. While
the 25th-ranked Lady
Comets were able to
build some decent leads,
SU kept clawing back.
Schreiner took an early
6-4 lead but UT then
went on an 10-0 run to
build an 8-point gap
with 13:25 left before
halftime. With
7:50 left, freshman Lia
Phillips hit one of two
free throws to pull the
Mountaineers (0-8 in
ASC) to within 2, 21-19.
A three-pointer by
senior Monica Enriquez
at 5:21 left brought SU
back within 2 points at
28-26. UT-Dallas
outscored SU 11-4 the
rest of the half to
build the lead to its
largest margin (9),
39-30.
Enriquez was a big part
of the reason that SU
kept it close, scoring
13 first half points.
Freshman Lia Phillips
had 7 and freshman
LaTisha Hall added six.
UT-Dallas came out of
the locker room on first
and scored the first 10
points of the second
half to build a 19-point
cushion. Schreiner
rallied to within 10
points with 12:25
remaining but any hopes
of an upset were dashed
with an 11-1 UTD run.
Enriquez finished with
20 points and 7 steals.
Senior Xandria White
ended up with 11 points
and 8 rebounds.
Phillips also tallied 11
points. She and
Hall each grabbed six
rebounds.
UTD's Lauren Hale
matched Enriquez with 20
points to tie for
game-high honors.
