CTX Uses Second Half Run
to Down Cold-Shooting SU
Concordia-Texas went on
a 16-0 run early in the
second half to beat
visiting Schreiner,
77-56, in Austin.
Schreiner was only able
to shoot 30% from the
field for the game but
still managed to keep
the contest close
through the first 20
minutes.
In the first half, the
game was a
back-and-forth affair
with Concordia
maintaining a small lead
early in the half and
Schreiner maintaining
the lead for a good
portion of the second 10
minutes. With SU
up two, 24-22, Concordia
(6-7 in ASC) used a 12-4
run to close the first
half and open a six
point lead at the break,
34-28.
The game turned at the
15:06 mark left in the
game. Schreiner
(0-11 in ASC) trailed
44-37 at the time, but
CTX scored the next 16
points over the ensuing
five minutes to put the
game away. The
Mountaineers would get
no closer than 19 points
the rest of the way.
Freshman guard Hannah
Burleson had a team-high
16 points. Senior
Monica Enriquez scored
14 and had six steals.
Freshman guard Desiree
Contreras, after missing
several weeks due to
injury and illness,
scored nine points off
the bench. Senior
Xandria White scored 8
points and grabbed 14
rebounds.
Schreiner was undone by
35 turnovers and only
was able to hand out 9
assists.
Schreiner plays its next
four games in Kerrville
the first of which is
Saturday vs. Mary
Hardin-Baylor at 1:00
pm.
