TLU
Gets Big Lead and Holds
Off Schreiner 2nd Half
Run

points vs. TLU.
Visiting Texas Lutheran
shot well in the first
half and took advantage
of Schreiner turnovers
and missed free throws
to build a big first
half lead and win 91-71.
The Mountaineers made a
big rally early in the
second half but two big
three pointers by
Jocelyn Langford ended
the threat.
Schreiner's missed free
throws started early in
the game and were a big
reason for an early
deficit. SU
trailed 11-7 with
freshman LaTisha Hall
scoring 6 of SU's early
points. From that
point on, TLU was on
target with many
uncontested shots and
also was the beneficiary
of 18 first half SU
turnovers. The
Lady Bulldogs led 53-28
with :35 remaining
before halftime.
Schreiner cut into the
lead by scoring the
final four points but
was still looking up at
a 53-32 gap at the
break.
Schreiner started the
second half fast, going
on a quick 16-4 run and
looked to cut further
into the lead, but a
turnover led to
Langford's first big
three. Again, SU
rallied. Freshman
Hannah Burleson hit a
3-pointer with 12:50 to
go to cut the margin to
62-56. The margin
was still at 8 points
(69-61) when Langford
hit her second big shot.
That all but ended the
threat and TLU pulled
away from there.
Burleson (19 points) led
three SU players in
double figures.
Seniors Monica Enriquez
(17 points, 7 rebounds,
5 assists, 3 steals) and
Xandria White (14
points, 9 rebounds) were
the others. Seven
TLU players scored 8
points or more.
Schreiner made only 6-16
free throws in the first
half and committed 18
turnovers. On the
positive side, SU won
the battle of the boards
39-30. TLU shot
55% from the field in
the first half.
