White's
Big Day Paces SU to
First Win of Season

Senior Xandria White
scored a game-high 26
points and pulled down a
career-best 19 rebounds
to lead Schreiner past
Sul Ross State, 63-54,
on Saturday in
Kerrville. The win
broke a 19-game losing
streak for SU dating
back to the last game of
last year.
The game was a battle of
winless teams and the
first 12:40 of the game
was played as if neither
team was going to be
able to win. At
that point, the score
was only 10-10, but Sul
Ross State (0-15 in ASC)
would use free throws in
the final minutes to
slowly build a
double-digit lead.
For Schreiner, it was
White who
single-handedly kept the
Mountaineers (1-14 in
ASC) afloat, scoring 12
of the team's first 15
points. Still, the
Lady Lobos built a solid
lead, 29-19, and things
didn't look good for the
home team. In the
first half, SU committed
16 turnovers, shot 16%
from the field and only
9% from the three-point
line.
In the second half,
Schreiner started
quickly, but was aided
greatly by many SRS
mistakes. In less
than five minutes, SU
had cut the lead to just
two, 33-31. When
freshman LaTisha Hall
(12 points, 10 rebounds)
grabbed a rebound and
scored with 13:37
remaining, Schreiner had
its first lead since the
opening moments, 36-35.
It was another Hall
basket less than 60
seconds later that gave
the Mountaineers a five
point lead with 12:45 to
play. A
three-pointer by senior
Monica Enriquez (11
points, 5 rebounds, 5
steals) with just over
eight minutes left made
it 51-42 and Schreiner
kept Sul Ross State at
arms length the rest of
the way.
It wasn't a pretty game
as the two teams
combined for 59
turnovers and Schreiner
only shot 26% from the
field for the game, yet
got the much-needed win.
SU was strong at the
free throw line going
22-for-27. White
was a perfect 10-for-10.
Twelve of White's
rebounds were on the
offensive glass and led
to putback points and
3-point plays when she
was fouled doing so.
Schreiner dominated the
glass, 47-30. SU
had more offensive
rebounds (24) than
defensive (23).
