Lady Lobos Avenge Loss, Break Losing Streak with Win over SU

Sul Ross State avenged a loss in Kerrville and broke its long losing streak with an 83-79 win over visiting Schreiner.  The Mountaineers had 30 of the game's 49 fouls as the two teams combined for 65 free throws.

Schreiner jumped out to a solid lead early, getting on top by seven points on two occasions, 8-1 and 10-3.  SRS (1-16 in ASC) took its first lead, 17-16, with 8:32 before halftime.  The Lady Lobos' 16-4 run eventually opened up a seven-point margin of their own and the home team still led, 32-29, at halftime.

In the second half, the Mountaineers (1-16 in ASC) closed the gap and then traded baskets over the opening five minutes, but a 13-2 run over the next five minutes gave Sul Ross State its biggest lead, 53-42, with a quarter of the game left.  Schreiner got within two points on five separate occasions but couldn't even up the game and had to suffer the defeat.

Freshman Hannah Burleson had 16 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead Schreiner.  Senior Monica Enriquez scored 15 points.  Senior Xandria White had 11 points and freshman Lia Phillips 10.

Freshman Caitlin Gayle saw her first action since breaking her hand last month and scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as SU outrebounded Sul Ross State 45-34.
