her 1,500th career point
during SU's win
Thursday. She is

On the night that
Schreiner senior
standout Monica Enriquez
hit a milestone scoring
total, the Mountaineers
surprised visiting
Concordia with a 52-49
win in Kerrville.
Enriquez scored her
1,500th point on the
first of two free throws
with just under five
minutes remaining but it
was her play in the
closing seconds that
saved the win.
With SU up three in
eight seconds left on
the clock, Enriquez
caught a long baseball
pass before it went out
of bounds and got it to
a teammate as the
precious seconds clicked
off.
Schreiner started fast
and caught Concordia
(9-9 in ASC) off guard,
racing out to a 9-1
lead. SU (2-16 in
ASC) maintained a
dwindling lead as both
teams struggled to
score. That was a
theme all night as
neither team shot more
than 33% from the field
in either half.
The Lady Tornadoes took
the lead, 26-23, with
6:45 before halftime but
Schreiner bounced back
and had a 30-26 lead
three minutes later.
SU still led by four at
halftime, 36-32.
Enriquez came into the
game needing 16 points
to cross 1,500 and had
10 at halftime.
In the second half,
Schreiner did a better
job rebounding and took
advantage of 29 CTX
turnovers. Senior
Xandria White had a
strong game, scoring 15
points to go with 12
rebounds. Enriquez
finished with 17 points,
six rebounds and five
steals.
CTX held the narrowest
of leads, 44-43, on the
glass.
