points in a loss to HSU
Hardin-Simmons took
advantage of a tiring
Schreiner team in the
closing five minutes to
pull away to a
comfortable 83-66 win in
Kerrville.
Throughout the first
fifteen minutes of the
second half, the lead
fluctuated between 7 and
12 points throughout as
HSU (15-5 in ASC)
couldn't shaky the pesky
Mountaineers (2-18 in
ASC).
Schreiner started strong
and played some of its
best basketball of the
season early. SU
moved the ball well, hit
the cutting players, and
made the extra pass.
All of that led to an
early 12-5 Schreiner
lead but it didn't last
long. By the
midway point, the
Cowgirls had pulled even
and then took the lead.
shortly thereafter.
Schreiner was behind by
10, 38-28, with just
over 2 minutes before
halftime and still
trailed by nine at the
half. Again, SU
had trouble on the
boards, trailing HSU
18-10 in that category.
On the flipside,
Schreiner did a great
job protecting the ball
and only had four
turnovers in the first
20 minutes. Still,
HSU was sharp in its
shooting, hitting 53%
from the field, 46% from
three-point distance and
80% from the free throw
line.
The second half was a
pretty balanced contest
as SU again displayed
more poise than normal.
Schreiner outrebounded
Hardin-Simmons, 18-12,
in the second half but
HSU still hit it's shots
(50%), preventing any
chance of a comeback.
Senior Monica Enriquez,
in her next-to-last
game, scored 18 points.
The other senior,
Xandria White, scored 14
and had seven rebounds.
Freshmen LaTisha Hall
and Hannah Burleson
added 11 and 10
respectively.
Another freshman, Lia
Phillips, led SU with 8
rebounds.
