Aloha!
Today we headed out to Honolulu, Hawaii for the
Hoop N Surf Classic. What an adventure! All of
us were anxious and ready to go. The thought of
an 8 hour flight was daunting to all of us, but
we knew we had each other to keep busy. The
flight was long, but we made it to Hawaii at
4:00 pm (with a 5 hour time difference). As we
all got off the plane, there was a sigh of
relief that we made it! We headed to the
hotel and put our stuff in our rooms. On the way
up to our rooms, as soon as we walked out of the
elavator, we were amazed by the beautiful sunset
and the ocean which was only a few blocks away.
We started the night off with a wonderful dinner
and then were able to walk around the strip of
Waikiki. As we walked around, we saw many other
teams venturing the strip of Hawaii. It’s been a
long day, but well worth the 8 hour flight to
come to this beautiful island and play
basketball. Well I have to go now time to get
some rest, we have a game tomorrow at 4 against
Pacific University. Go SU!!

ALOHA!
Today was our first full day in paradise!
We woke up this morning to beautiful sunny skies
and amazing temperatures, not in the low 30s!
We’re definitely NOT in Texas anymore:) The
Hoop-n-Surf Classic officially kicked off today
with the Schreiner Mountaineers leaving their
mark in the sand in our first game against
Pacific University - out of Oregon. After
opening up the game with a quick 12 point lead,
we never trailed the Boxers. By the end of the
game, every player had seen playing time and the
team support and confidence was clearly evident
as we coasted to a 68-53 win over Pacific
University. Junior Monica Enriquez led the
balanced scoring attack with 18 points to go
along with 8 steals and I was able to contribute
15 points. Our two seniors each came up
big for us. Lynn Stow added 11 points and
Amanda Flores chipped in 10 points as well as
grabbing 8 rebounds. After a long day, we headed
to Planet Hollywood for our team dinner and then
hit the shops again for some more shopping, you
know the tourist thing. Tomorrow we will take on
Misericordia University out of Pennsylvania in
our last game in Hawaii! Have a wonderful day!
ALOHA!

ALOHA!!!!
We started the day off by catching some waves!
Some of us tried to surf this morning and we
actually were successful a couple of times.
We then went to eat some breakfast to get ready
for our game at 2 p.m. We played Misercordia and
started off well but could not pull it through
at the end. We started off hot with 3 pointers
from me, Anna, and Courtney, and SU lead at
halftime, but by the middle of the second half,
we lost our lead and could never get back. It
stung a bit knowing we should have beaten this
team, but hopefully we learn from our mistakes
and get better as conference play rolls around
next year (’08). After our game, Lindsey’s
family graciously provided the entire team with
some Hawaiian food, which was really good! Once
back to the hotel we were on our own to enjoy
the rest of the day out in Hawaii. We still had
time to enjoy some fun in the sun as well as get
a lot of our souvenir shopping done. After
a long afternoon and night out on the strip we
are ready for bed. We have to rest for our trip
to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. I can not wait!!

Aloha!
Tonight we were able to experience a huge and
important part of the Hawaiian culture. We were
greeted by Cousin Flo and boarded bus # 4 “The
Good Looking Bus” where we traveled to Paradise
Cove for an experience of a lifetime. We were
apart of one of the best Luau’s on the Island.
Not only was the view sensational but the
Hawaiian dinner, dancing and pure fun was
something I’ll never forget. We were greeted at
Paradise Cove with shell lei’s and took
pictures. We saw Coconut tree climbing, and the
ritual of bringing the roasted pig out, and net
fishing. We enjoyed the Luau “Celebration” and
the wonderful experiences. The gracefulness of
the dancers was unbelievable. A couple of my
teammates learned how to hula dance (we are
still working on the gracefulness.) My favorite
dance was seeing one Samoan man dance with fire,
I was in complete awe wondering how he was able
to twirl those torches without getting burned. I
am continuously amazed with the talents,
friendliness and welcoming nature found on the
island. This has been a wonderful experience and
I’m thankful to be able to share it with you!

Hola from Hawaii! Today we headed out to the
famous beaches of North Shore. Courtney's family
has friends with a house directly on the
beach--what a backyard (never have to mow =D)!
With all the stories we had heard about North
Shore and the awesome waves we were stoked to
get there. After an hour and a half cramped ride
(read: 17 people in a 15 passenger van) and the
occasional snow cone, we finally arrived to find
the waves just as we were hoping--AMAZING. The
waves were huge (well, at least for us
landlubbers) and we spent most of our time
either cracking up laughing at all the mishaps
we had, (a.k.a. wardrobe malfunctions) or by
attempting to save the occasional drowning
teammate. We all had a great time and were sad
to have to leave. Once we got back to our hotel
we took shifts eating and getting ready to go to
the airport to fly back home. 2 hours + 15 girls
+ 1 shower = DISASTER. However, once it was all
said and done we successfully put enough sand
down the shower drain in room 1548 to create our
own beach and somehow managed to reach some
semblance of cleanliness. A bit more tanned, 8
hours, and a temperature drop of 50 degrees
later we touched back down on good old Texas
terra firma and were off to spend the rest of
our holiday back with our families. We had an
amazing time and we're so thankful that we got
to go!
PS) Texas Girls + North Shore Waves = Several
near drowning experiences and a new meaning to
the word "dive"....
