Senior Margaret Collins was Schreiner's
top finisher this weekend as the team
competed in its first-ever women's cross
country meet at the TLU Opener in Seguin.
Collins time of 26:22 placed her 44th
overall in the individual competition.
She edged out sophomore teammate Lori
Beck, who's time of 27:51 placed her in
50th position over the 5,000 meter
course. SU's other individual
runner, junior Ann Stock, finished the
race in a time of 31:07 to finish 54th
individually. Considering it was
their first competition, head coach
Rodney Holland was pleased with the
effort and times recorded by the SU
trio.
"I think
nerves had a lot to do with the times, but
we will make the adjustments needed to run a
better race (next week). Our runners all
said that the race was a lot harder than
expected but we know that we can do better
with more race experience. On the female
side, Margaret, Lori, and Ann started out a
little fast, but with the quality of the
teams combined with the type of competitors
we have on our team, we tried to keep up
with the pack in the beginning and it hurt
us in the end."
