Dr. Juan Gonzalez, CSCS
is the
new head coach for Women’s Cross Country for
Schreiner University, effective January 3, 2008.
Dr. Gonzalez (Dr. G as he is known to his
athletes) received his Ph.D. in Exercise
Physiology from Texas A&M University. His
other accomplishments include being a Certified
Strength and Conditioning Specialist, CSCS, (NSCA),
Level I Triathlon Coach (USAT), and a Level I
Track & Field Coach, (USTF).
He is a former runner from Edinburg, Texas.
He has been working with high school female
runners for track & field and cross country
since 1996. He has successfully helped
athletes set personal records in the 100, 200,
400, 800, 1600 and 3200 meters. Here is

Dr. Gonzalez has made numerous research
presentations to the American College of Sports
Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and
Conditioning Association (NSCA) in the area of
performance enhancement for the female athlete.
His interests include neuromuscular adaptations
and speed development in female runners, injury
prevention in female runners, functional
strength training in female cross country
runners, and sports nutrition and psychology.
Dr. Gonzalez is a faculty member at Schreiner
University within the Exercise Science
Department in the School of Science and
Mathematics. He and his wife, Debbie,
moved to Kerrville in June, 2007. Debbie is also
a faculty member at Schreiner University within
the School of Professional Studies. You can find
Dr. G either in class, the Human Performance
Laboratory testing athletes or out running.
