Calderon
Finishes 10th, Minhas 12th at LeTourneau Classic
Freshman Liz Calderon finished
in tenth place individually and sophomore teammate Surraya
Minhas 12th at the LeTourneau Spring Classic. Although
both players were coming off lengthy layoffs and struggled
with their respective games during the tournament, both
posted solid finishes.
Calderon had trouble on the final day with big numbers.
Although she had seven pars and a birdie in her round, she
also couldn't avoid triple bogeys and a quadruple bogey.
Her start with indicative of her final round. On the
first hole, she had trouble around the green which led to an
opening 8 on the par 4 hole. She rebounded well on the
next series of holes, recording a par, birdie, par, par and
par. On her seventh hole however, Calderon struggled
with a hazard and recorded a triple bogey. She put
that hole behind her and started another string of solid
holes. Calderon was in eighth place after the first
round and Minhas was ninth.
For Minhas, inconsistencies around the greens on the first
day turned into issues from tee to green on the second and
she could never get her game going. Still, both
players finished in the Top 10 among players in the American
Southwest Conference. Both will play at the ASC
Championships next week. |
