UMHB Erases 3-2 SU
Lead, Wins 9-3
In a match
of spurts, host UMHB started quickly, was answered
by a Schreiner run, and then UMHB took control as SU
played one player down in the second half and earned
a 9-3 win.
UMHB got two quick goals but the Mountaineers, led
by senior
Ashley Avalos roared back. Avalos
cut the lead in half on an assist from freshman
Katelyn Williams. It didn't take long for
Avalos to strike again. Her goal on a free
kick knotted the match at 2-2 with plenty of time
remaining in the first half. Freshman
Missy Gebhardt's first career goal put SU on top
momentarily, but UMHB quickly countered and added
two more goals before halftime for a 5-3 lead.
Any thoughts of another comeback were hurt early in
the second half when Williams received a red card.
That left Schreiner one player short and UMHB took
advantage, scoring four goals in the second period.
Freshman Jo Jo Ahlf started in goal for the first
time and had 15 saves in the match. |
