Schreiner Rolls to 5-0 Win in Season
Opener
The 2007 SU Women's
Soccer season started successfully with a 5-0
shutout win over visiting University of Dallas in
Kerrville.
The Mountaineers (1-0) started early and
thoroughly dominated the visiting Crusaders.
Freshman Danni Gomez started the scoring with her
first collegiate goal with 15 minutes gone in the
first half. She was quickly followed one
minute later by fellow freshman Natalie White.
Both goals were unassisted. Sophomore Shae
Cardenas increased the lead to 3-0 at the 25 minute
mark. SU held a commanding 22-0 edge in
shots-on-goal in the first half.
The second half was no better for the visitors who
only had a roster of 12 players. Schreiner
substituted freely and the fresher Mountaineer legs
only widened the growing gap on the scoreboard.
White scored her second goal of the match halfway
through the final half to make it 4-0. Less
than one minute later, junior Julie Goodhew scored
to create the final winning margin.
Schreiner outshot Dallas, 38-0, in the match.
Freshman goalkeeper Kari Kriegel earned her first
win and shutout but didn't have to record a stop as
the SU defense was stifling. |
