Westervelt's Two Goals Lead SU to
3-1 Win
Freshman Ashley Westervelt scored two goals in the
first half of Schreiner's match with visiting
Louisiana and that was more than enough to gain the
3-1 win. Westervelt tallied her first goal
less than eight minutes into the contest off a pass
from fellow-freshman Danni Gomez. The
Mountaineers doubled their lead off Westervelt's
second goal with just over 10 minutes before
halftime, this time from a feed by another freshman
Kelsey Olvera. The score remained that way at
half, 2-0.
SU senior Roxie Harper, playing in her second to
last match, scored to make it 3-0 on an assist from
junior Alcie Rivera.
Louisiana College kept the match close when they
tallied a goal with 15 minutes remaining. LC
was statistically even with Schreiner and held a
14-13 edge in shots. They scored their lone
goal when they were a man down due to a red card on
one of the Louisiana College starters.
Although both teams had chances, the score remained
unchanged the rest of the way and SU earned the
victory. |
