Hinkley Sets New Direction for
Schreiner Women's Soccer
The Schreiner Women’s Soccer program enters a new
era in 2008. New head coach Wayne Hinkley takes
over the program and brings a new energy to the
Mountaineers. The former head coach at both Boerne
High School and Bandera High School – and Schreiner
alum – is very optimistic about his first season
leading the Mountaineers.
Like at both Boerne and Bandera, Hinkley’s first
challenge will be to elevate the success of the
program. He’s had great success before and will do
so again, but he knows that this is not a quick fix
situation. He will have a very young team – only
eight players return from last year’s squad.
What he will have is a new attitude both among his
returners and freshmen. In particular, the freshmen
are making an impact by coming in with a
hard-working, positive, and enthusiastic mindset.
Despite only having eight holdovers from last fall,
those who return were impact players in 2007 and
will provide needed experience and solid
leadership. Players to watch during the season are
sophomores Natalie White (midfielder from Abilene),
Kaitlyn Moore (defender from Aledo), and Dani Gomez
(midfielder from San Antonio), and juniors Kellye
Nation (defender from Austin) and Kathryn Fondon
(defender from Katy). Coach Hinkley will stress
team unity, enthusiasm and youth as he builds the
program into a contender in the always-rugged
American Southwest Conference.
Hinkley’s first impressions of the preseason
workouts is that the team is making very good
progress and he is optimistic that the team will
reach all of the goals they set for ourselves and
will have a successful season. |
